ST. JOHN'S, Antigua: Guyana beat the University XI in their Zone B Red Stripe Bowl limited overs match at the Antigua Recreation Ground yesterday. Man-of-the-match Ramnaresh Sarwan, who was passed over for captaincy of the squad, led Guyana to a comprehensive 114-run victory, CMC reported.
Sarwan top-scored with 91 in the Guyana total 258 for six off 50 overs and then returned to capture three for 49 to help bundle out the University side for 144 in 40.5 overs.
It was Guyana's second win in as many matches and they are on course for a semi-final berth next week. Skipper Shiv Chanderpaul scored 47 runs with three fours and a six.
In Jamaica, West Indies captain Brian Lara scored an unbeaten 48 and leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine grabbed five wickets as Trinidad and Tobago handed amateurs Canada their second humiliating defeat in
Zone A at the Alpart Sports Club yesterday.
Jamaica faces the Windwards today in Jamaica while Leewards faces Barbados in Antigua.
