
Conference of Caricom heads of state opens tomorrow

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: St. Kitts and Nevis Governor General, Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, will declare open the Conference of Heads of State of the Caribbean Community, which opens in St. Kitts tomorrow morning.
St. Kitts and Nevis' Ambassador to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), His Excellency Professor Simon Jones-Hendrickson, will deliver the welcome remarks.
Outgoing chairman of the Conference of the Heads of State, the Governor General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Mr. Frederick Ballantyne, will also deliver remarks while St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, will give the feature address and Incoming Conference Chairman, St. Kitts and Nevis Governor General, Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, will declare the conference open.
Governors-General, Sir Clifford Husbands of Barbados; Sir Howard Crooke of Jamaica; Sir James Carlisle of Antigua and Barbuda; Sir Colville Young of Belize; Dame Pearlette Louisy of St. Lucia; Sir Daniel Williams of Grenada; Sir Frederick Ballantyne of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Dame Ivy Dumont of The Bahamas; and Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian of St. Kitts and Nevis and Presidents Mr. George Richards of Trinidad and Tobago and Dr. Nicholas Liverpool of Dominica begin arriving in St. Kitts today for the conference.
The meeting, from 5th - 10th of October, will be held under the theme: "Contending with Global Challenges: An Inspiration for Regional Development and Sustainability."
The first session on "Securing the Caribbean Monetary Systems," will be presented by Governor of the St. Kitts-based Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (EECB), Sir K. Dwight Venner at the ECCB Headquarters. The Heads of State will also tour the Eastern Caribbean Stock Exchange.
