BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: It's not only Kittitian Sprinter Kim Collins and Miss Teen Universe, Jermul Huggins, who are making St. Kitts and Nevis proud.
Kittitian-born soccer player, Keith "Kayamba" Gumbs, has been reportedly making a very outstanding impact in the Malaysian Professional Soccer competitions. Gumbs is currently playing with a Professional Soccer Team 'Sabah' which already qualified for the Malaysia Cup 2003 final, being held today, 4th October, according to a St. Kitts government service report.
A newspaper report claimed Keith "Kayamba" Gumbs is Sabah's hotshot striker and quotes the 31-year-old St. Kitts-born player as saying that the Malaysia Cup final was 'very special' for him and he wants to show his appreciation by helping Sabah win the trophy.
"It feels really great and a privilege especially as I only joined the Rhinos recently. I never expected that we could go this far even though I knew we have a very good team. To show my appreciation for the support I get from everyone including from my teammates, Safa, coach and the fans, I will go beyond 100 percent to ensure we win the trophy," Gumbs was quoted as saying.
Gumbs, who was the top scorer in the Hong Kong League this year, however, was in no mood to be compared with Selangor top goal-scorer Juan Manuel Arostegui.
Gumbs, who has been averaging one goal in each match said: "We are two different players with different capabilities. I don't like being compared with him (Arostegui) because I have my own style of play."
