Turks and Caicos focuses on breast cancer awareness

GRAND TURK, Turks & Caicos: The Turks and Caicos Islands Cancer Foundation is celebrating "Breast Cancer Awareness Month," by encouraging residents of the islands to join them in the crucial effort to save lives by taking action against cancer. 

"This can be done by talking with them and the medical department about screening, telling friends and family members about the importance of early detection and providing support for those diagnosed with any form of cancer," the group advised in a recent statement.

During the month of October, the foundation, which is comprised of members who are mainly survivors and persons whose lives have been affected by the illness, is preparing a series of educational and fundraising activities in recognition of the month. These include the first annual 'Paint the Town Pink' walkathon on 13th October.
