Saba gets new Island Secretary

THE BOTTOM, Saba: Saba has a new island secretary. He is Mr. Menno van der Velde.

Mr. Van der Velde, according to a government statement, was the sole candidate of the Executive Council that was submitted to the Island Council in July for approval. Both factions of the Island Council, the Windward Islands Peoples Movement (WIPM) and the Saba United Democratic Party (SUDP), reportedly unanimously accepted his credentials.

Mr. Van der Velde has a background in economics, finance and has taken some courses in law. 

The Island Council appoints and dismisses the person for the position of Island Secretary. This person is appointed for an indefinite period.
